Third Party Fund Raising
A Third Party Fundraiser is an event planned by a member or organization in the community with proceeds to United Way. While we applaud your decision to fundraise for United Way, we also expect that your event is consistent with the mission and values of United Way.
We are developing a set of guidelines to help you plan your Third Party Fundraiser, here are a few things to be aware of: your event must be approved before you can advertise it as a United Way event and use our logo; proceeds must be received within 30 days of the event; a financial accounting of the event must be received within 30 days of the event in order for eligible income tax receipts to be issued; we may be able to provide volunteer help at your event; we may be able to have a board member or staff speak at your event; we can provide advise or expertise on licensing and insurance coverage. United Way CKL cannot provide: funding or reimbursement of expenses; mailing or donor lists; prizes, auction items or awards; insurance or licenses; we do not accept legal or financial responsibility for third party events.

Each year, more partners come on board, and with the help of City of Kawartha Lakes staff and Kawartha Choice this local culinary feast continues to be a sold out event.

Third party fundraisers help. In the fall of 2009, Everol Powell of The Boathouse ran a Caribbean Christmas dinner, with proceeds to United Way. Everol gained some new customers, United Way raised some money, and everyone loved the jerk turkey! We love partnering with businesses in the community for these win/win initiatives.
$10/10 Challenge
For two years, the United Way for the City of Kawartha Lakes has held a $10/10 Challenge, in which we challenge groups of 10 people to bring $10 each to support United Way. In 2009, Kate Imrie hosted her own $10/10 event – a potluck dinner. She cooked for members of her book club, who each paid $10 each to attend the feast. The event saw a $150 donation to United Way. Members of other clubs are encouraged to hold their own $10/10 events for United Way CKL.
High School Football
The three high schools of Trillium Lakelands District School Board traditionally hold “buy outs” for students, who pay a small fee to get out of school and support their football team at its United Way game. Our 2011 campaign was helped by both Fenelon Falls Secondary School and LCVI, who each held United Way games.
